Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near the brokenhearted; He saves those crushed in spirit.  (Psalm 34:18)

My grandfather went Home to Jesus Sunday afternoon.

After battling pancreatic cancer for five years---beating it during that period, and then fighting again---my God sent relief in the form of Heaven.  I've cried so much this week I've been utterly exhausted by the time I crawl into bed.  But despite all the tears, I feel such a marvelous sense of peace that can only come from my Lord.

Being the eldest of the grandkids on my mother's side of the family, I was the one who MADE him a grandpa---my Poppy.  <3  Seeing him endure the pain & suffering was more than I could bear, and I see my Grandmommy---who cared for him unconditionally till the end---as the strongest woman I know.

But my God is good.  And I know he's running hand-in-hand with my Lord, and I've the Hope of Heaven that I'll see him & all those who've gone before one day.  What a comfort to know in these days of sorrow!

He will be deeply missed because he was deeply loved.

The outpouring of comfort & encouragement from ALL our family & friends has been so wonderful.  Words just cannot describe the gratitude we feel in the midst of such love.

I feel like I didn't get to say a final goodbye---not really knowing that my last visit to my grandparents the few days earlier would be the final time I'd see him this side of Heaven.  But I know he loved me, and I know how proud he was of me & the rest of us.

Farewell, Poppy.
I love you always.

Until we meet again.

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
