How was your weekend? Mine was FUNNNNN. I missed my Camp NaNo wrap-up post for last week & snippets, but I'll make up for that & do a month wrap-up later this week (cuz there's only two days of April left!! WHATTTT). Also, I saw Avengers: Endgame Saturday---so I've the PERFECT excuse for missing that post. Riiiiiiight?? *wink wink*

So. For any newcomers, WELCOME!
If you cannot already tell, I'm a total fangirl of all the things: Marvel, [some] DC, Star Wars, Harry Potter (Hufflepuff girl!), DISNEY (of course), Studio Ghibli, Stargate, etc. etc.
If you are new here, I'm so beyond pleased that you've come to my teensy corner of the 'net. I share a variety of things on this blog, but they tend to revolve mainly around writerly topics, stories, names & their meanings, book reviews, and the like. Feel free join the fun! I love interaction & welcome any questions/comments. :]
In regards to the title, What's in a Name?, these posts feature names (obviously), their meanings, and their history. I started this series AGES ago with the goal of sharing awesome/epic/little-known monikers with other aspiring authors (as well as published!), in the hopes of helping out a little in the character department. We've all been at that point where the name we've given a particular character just doesn't seem to fit, or where that character is simply nameless for the time being. It can be frustrating, right?
Every Monday I post a new set. Beginning this year, I've started adding themes for each Monday of the month:
- First Monday --- Place Names
- Second --- Standard
- Third --- Standard/Surnames
- Fourth --- Surnames/Nicknames
- Fifth --- Nicknames (if there's a 5th Monday)
This has worked so well thus far, and I always enjoy the bit of research involved. Unless otherwise stated, the majority of my resources hail from the website behindthename.com & it's sister site, surname.behindthename.com---LOVE these! Check them out!

My nickname posts usually feature longish names & some unusual/unique, possible short forms of them, as opposed to the normal, more common ones for which they are often associated with. In my opinion, this gives a refreshing look on some names that may be a little too common, but are still lovely. :]

Boggy/Bogs
Bogdan
M | Polish, Russian, Slovene, Bolgarian, Serbian, Croatian, Macedonian, Romanian, Medieval Slavic
Means "given by God," from the Slavic elements bogu "god" & dan "given."
NOTE: I'd tossed this name around, not sure if I wanted to use it for a nickname post or not, so I asked my hubby what he thought. Here's the ensuing conversation. . .
ME: "If you had a good buddy named Bogdan, what would you call him for short? Like, 'yo, _____," or "hey, _____, how's it going?'."
HUBS: "Boggy. Definitely Boggy. Whassup, Boggy?"
ME: "I was thinking Bogey. . ."
HUBS: "Nah. Boggy."
(So, Boggy it is! But I added Bogs in there as well, thinking it was far better than my idea of "Bogey". . . And I kinda like it a good bit more than "Boggy," but don't tell my man! haha) xD

F | Italian, Catalan, Swedish, Finnish, Russian, Dutch, English, Biblical, Biblical Latin, Old Church Slavic
From Sousanna, the Greek form of the Hebrew name Shoshannah. Shoshannah is derived from the Hebrew word shoshan, meaning "lily," but in modern Hebrew, it also means "rose" (perhaps ultimately taken from an Egyptian element meaning "lotus"). In the New Testament, this was the given name of a woman who ministers to Jesus.
Adoniram
M | Hebrew, Biblical Hebrew
Means "my Lord is exalted" in Hebrew. In the Old Testament, this was the given name of an overseer of tribute under the reign of the kings David, Solomon, & Rehoboam. When the Israelites revolted, he was stoned to death.
Rhiannon
F | Welsh, Welsh Mythology, English
Possibly derived from the old Celtic name Rigantona, meaning "great queen." It is thought that this was the name of a Celtic goddess of fertility & the moon, unattested. . As an English name, it became popular in 1976 thanks to Fleetwood Mac's song of the same name.
Vincent
M | English, French, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Slovak
From the Roman name Vincentius, which comes from the Latin word vincere, meaning "to conquer." This name was common among early Christians & was borne by many saints. As an English name, it has been in use since the Middle Ages, though not popular until the 19th century. Famous bearers include the French priest Saint Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) & Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890), a post-impressionist painter.
Constance
F | English, French
Medieval form of Constantia, ultimately meaning "constant, steadfast." The Normans were the ones to introduce it to England---it was the name of a daughter of William the Conqueror.
