What's in a Name?

Sooooooo. . . I'm attempting to post my normal posts again!  Here's a list of names, as I still love 'em.  Enjoy!!  And if you've any requests, I'll be happy to research them!

Alden
M | English
AWL-dǝn

This given name hails from a surname, which was derived from the Old English Ealdwine, made of the elements eald "old" and wine "friend."

Rhea
F | Greek Mythology (Latinized), Roman Mythology
REE-ǝ

Latinized form of Greek Rheia, meaning is unknown, possibly related to the words rheo "to flow" or era "ground."  In Greek Mythology, Rhea was a Titan, the wife of Cronus and mother of Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, Hestia.  And in Roman mythology, it is the given name of Rhea Silvia, mother of Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome.

This is also the name given to one of the moons of Saturn, named after the Greek Titan.

Rowan
M & F | Irish, English (modern)
ROW-ǝn

From an Irish surname, an Anglicized form of Ó Ruadháin, meaning "descendant of Ruadháin."  This name may also be referenced to the rowan tree.  [Ruadháin is a Gaelic byname meaning "red," and was often a nickname for someone with red hair.]

Etta
F | English
ET-ǝ

Short form of Henrietta (the feminine version of Henry, which ultimately means "home ruler."), and other names ending with etta.  A famous bearer of this name was the American singer Etta James (1938-2012), whose given name was Jamesetta.

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
