He's a spy, and he needs her help...

Emily Abbott is working hard as a coffee barista in downtown Phoenix, keeping one eye on her tiny college fund and the other on the mysterious new guy with his profound lack of coffee-making skills.

Just when she thinks they might be getting the hang of working together, she's abruptly thrust into his world of espionage and danger. Brent Peterson needs her help to keep Red Rover safe and the information he carries out of the wrong hands. But she's just a barista—what can she do?

Much more than she thinks.

THE BASICS
I found this gem as a freebie on Amazon sometime ago & finally read it back in April.  It was such a clean, super easy read, I actually finished it in record time---and I'm a SLOOOOOOW reader, so that's saying something.  ;D

I adored the characters!  Emily reminded me so much of myself, I looooove her sweet heart.  She's a hard-worker & is employed at a coffee shop!!  Brent is just adorable also (but he makes terrible coffee---haha!).  He's not your typical, dark & brooding, mysterious & overly handsome spy.  He is handsome & has an air of mystery around him, as Emily finds out, but he's a complete people person & gets along well with absolutely anyone in the coffee shop.  I adored the dialogue between these two cinnamon rolls.  xD

VIOLENCE
A shop is smoked out causing a distraction for escape, fire alarms blare & generally give a good scare to all inside.  A car chase takes place, and the driver returns looking disheveled, covered in sweat & grime, and with a small cut on his face.  Turns out he rammed his car into an adversary's & they fought it out.

An older man is kidnapped.  A girl is terrified, believing the lock to her apartment has been tampered with.

At some point, we noticed a character's shoulder holster.  Gunfire sounds from an old warehouse (off-screen).  A man is running away, wounded in leg & bleeding fast.  A van is targeted by an explosive.

SPIRITUAL CONTENT
Emily prays several times throughout.  Many of those involve prayer over her car, hoping it at least starts enough to get her to & from work.  At some point, she considers asking around her church for a good mechanic.

LANGUAGE // ALCOHOL & DRUGS
A "muttered curse."

A guy kindly offers his co-worker and ibuprofen for her headache.

ROMANTIC CONTENT
There's some attraction between Emily & Brent.  The romance is not overly done in any way---I'm not sure there's even a kiss... But their relationship is very sweet!  Emily feels drawn to him & his easy character.

CONCLUSION
I would highly recommend this little novel!  And I so need to find the sequels.  It was a very quick, very easy read---making the story the perfect thing to curl up with of an evening.  Loved it!

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
