What's in a Name? // 3rd Monday Edition

Good day to you, lovelies!
How was your weekend?  Mine was good, with the exception of a teething toddler (poor baby!) & my hubby catching a bout of food poisoning Friday evening...  They're both better now, thankfully! <3

Read on to see some fun Nicknames, as well as a list of Surnames!

Enjoy.

NICKNAMES

Nix
Nixon
| English

From an English surname meaning "son of Nick".  It was borne by American president Richard Nixon (1913-1994).

Clemmie
Clementine
English, French
KLEHM-É™n-teen (English), KLEH-MAHN-TEEN (French)

English form of French Clémentine, ultimately meaning "merciful, gentle."

Aki
Akihiko
| Japanese
AH-KEE / AH-KEE-HEE-KOH

From Japanese æ˜Ž (aki) or æ˜ (aki) both meaning "bright" combined with å½¦ (hiko) meaning "boy, prince."  More combos of other kanji characters can also form this name.

Izzie/Izzy
Isolda
English (rare), German, Arthurian Romance
i-ZOL-dÉ™(English) i-SOL-dÉ™(English)

Latinate form of Isolde, whose origin is uncertain, though it is possible it hails of Celtic roots.  Most likely, it is ultimately Germanic, perhaps from a hypothetic name like Ishild, the elements is meaning "ice, iron" and hild meaning "battle."  In medieval Arthurian legend, Isolde was an Irish princess betrothed to the king of Cornwall.  However, after accidentally drinking a love potion, she became the lover of his knight, Tristan, which eventually led to their tragic deaths.

SURNAMES

Dunbar
Scottish

From the name of a town in East Lothian, Scotland---derived from Gaelic dùn meaning "fort" and barr meaning "summit", called such due to its position on a rock that projects into the sea.

Rahm
English, Hebrew (?)

Meaning unknown.  Could possibly be from a given name of Hebrew origin meaning "high, lofty."  Could also be a derivative of the name Rahamim, meaning "mercy" or "compassion."

Only had two surnames to share with you today.  But I hope you enjoy these posts regardless the quantity of names!  *^ - ^*

Whatcha think, friend?  Do you have any faves from these sets?  I rather like Nix & Izzie, but the others are so unique as well.  And both Dunbar & Rahm are certainly future-ref-worthy.  ;D

Have a lovely week, dear beans!

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
