Encouragement

What's in a Name?

It's a rather dreary Monday in my neck o' the woods, y'all.  How about you?
But despite the dreariness, it's still a lovely Monday!

How was your weekend?  And how fares your NaNo-ing?  I'm struggling on that a good bit, but I feel like I'm doing what I can.  Just don't look too closely at my wordcount. . .  {And I gotta say it's so fun to be a part of the Pen Dragons, a Google Hangout, hosted by the ever-lovely Christine.}

As you can see---quite obviously---I failed to post some writerly words of wisdom last Friday, but all's well.  I just wasn't able to draft one in time and have it ready, and my weekend was pretty full up with family & football (Go Vols! and Titans! and Pats!).
But here I am, and with a loverly batch of English rareties.  :]

Enjoy!

Vance
M | English

From an English surname, derived from the Old English word fenn, meaning "marsh, fen."

Elletta
F | English (rare)

Meaning unknown.

Amias
English (rare)

Variant of Amyas, whose meaning is unknown though perhaps a derivative of Amis, ultimately derived from Latin amicus, meaning "friend."

Onalee
F | English (rare)
AWN-ne-lee

A variant of Onneli, which could possibly be derived from Onni, meaning "happiness, luck" in Finnish.

  2. It's very rainy and dreary here too, though I'm quite liking the coziness of it. Great writing weather! Hehe.

I'm sorry you're struggling a bit though with the writing. But it's really not about that wordcount, but just finding a bit of time each day to respect your dream and make a little progress on your novel that deserves to be written. And that is EXACTLY what you're doing and I think it's wonderful. Every single word is progress. You're doing great! <333 (And the Pen Dragons have been so fun! Except I've been terribly absent lately. GAH. Time has been eluding me as of late. >.>)

Okay but THESE NAMES. I literally just added every. single. one to my list of potential character names I keep. I am completely in love with ALL of these! You are the master at name finding!

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
