What's in a Name? || Nicknames

Hullo, dear friends.  How was your Monday?
Mine was gorgeous and sunny and a high of 65 until the bit of rain came.  :]

Posting this a bit late, but here's a new set of nicknames!

Enjoy!

Whatcha think?
Josie is my favorite out of this set.  What do you think about Frederik?  Do you like the use of Derik as the nickname, whereas most would assume he'd be called Fred?  Would you add any more rare & unique names to this list?  If so, lemme know! I may feature them in the next Nickname edition.  :]

  1. Haha, you're lucky your Monday was so nice! Mine was cold with a layer of snow covering my car. :P

I LOVE Josie for Josephine. It's just darling. <3 And I really think Derik is an unexpected and clever nickname for Frederik! Personally, though, my fav nickname for Frederick is Fritz.

    1. SNOW??? I'm so not ready for snow. You could say I'm totally NOT a cold-weather person. xD

Yes! 100% agree---"darling" is the perfect definition. :] Exactly! I think that's why I like the idea of Frederik, because of the nickname. Normally, it wouldn't be a name I'd choose. AHH! LOVE it! Fritz is such a fun name.

  2. I think Josie is my favorite out of this, too! And that is a creative nickname for Frederick. I like it better than Fred. Fred is expected.

As for names... I know this is silly, pulling from my own book, but my main character is named Raegan and sometimes some people call her Rae. I like using more neutral names for females. Another nickname/name I love is Edie for a female named Eden. Those are some names I've used/thought about. I love these posts. :D

    1. It's such a cute name. *allthehearteyes* Yes, "Fred" is so expected, and not quite as common in this decade, ya know? That's what made me think of "Derik."

Not silly at all!! Raegan is a GREAT name! I may feature that the next time I post nicknames (if that's alright??). I think "Rae" as a nickname is so simple and beautiful. And Edie is lovely! (Makes me think of the movie The Inheritance---SO GOOD. If you haven't seen, I'd HIGHLY recommend!) I really like the name Eden as well. :]

  3. I LOVE the nickname "Sol" for Solomon (which is a name I really like as well)! "Derik" is such a cool idea for a Frederick nickname. I may have to use that sometime!

    1. Me too! And please do! They are such unique names. :]

  4. Derik is a totally unique way to shorten Frederick! I love the way one can pick apart long names to find lots of nicknames. Frederick could also potentially be Freddy, Rick, even Red. Elizabeth is one I know that gives SO MANY nickname options.

Also, for some reason I find it hilarious that Beverly comes from a name meaning "beaver stream". XD Makes sense when you think about it but still makes me laugh.

  5. I thought so too! And yes, totally agree. I like finding the long ones and looking for the least expected nickname that still fits. I like those others you mention---especially Red! Yes, Elizabeth is a lovely name with so many options (though I think Lizzy is my favorite version *^ - ^*)

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
