SKGfun E-Magazine || FAMILY

Happy Weekend, all!
How was your week?  Is it nearly Spring where you are??

A little bit ago, I believe I mentioned that I write for an e-magazine produced by two sweet sisters:

South Kakalaki Girl
A Magazine for Girls by Girls.

The magazine is released bimonthly, so the featured theme for March & April is FAMILY.

My article in there is titled, "Respecting Parents: Not Easy, Very Right."  Click the link here or the image below to view the magazine and all of the amazing articles it features!

You'll find articles ranging from family-friendly movie nights to myths regarding the middle child to the importance of simply listening.

It's so nice to read these innocent articles from girls just like you and I.
So, do pop over, if you can!  :]

On a different note, is anyone taking part in Camp NaNoWriMo this Spring?  If so, I could desperately use any and all tips you can share with me!  I've decided rather last minute to join up, and I've got practically NOTHING prepared, with the exception of knowing I'd like to continue working on my Beauty & the Beast retelling. . . *cue HUGE sigh* BUT. I am determined!

Gotta go.  But thanks for stopping by!  I hope next week I will be far more active than this past one. . .  I dunno what happened---the days are getting away from me!

BTW. . .
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

  1. I really enjoyed your article! Something I'm really thankful for now as an adult is that my parents are also my friends, and that there's a mutual respect for each other as fellow adults, even if we don't always agree! :) I also enjoyed the other articles too.

Camp is really fun! Definitely an opportunity to challenge one's writing but without the intensity of regular NaNo. :) Cabins can be a fun feature for checking in with other writers and cheering one another on. Experimenting with the different goals can be helpful too, since you can make them based on things other than word count. I've only tried the word count feature before, but I've heard a lot of writers find the hour goals are really helpful and not as stressful as the word count. ^_^

  2. I'll have to check out that article!!

LE GASP, YOU ARE DOING CAMP TOO!!!

Camp is, I think, much more fun than a regular NaNo. You can set your own word or hours goal, and you can have your own private cabin for either yourself or join a group of friends. Word wars (which is a contest between you and another camper friend to see how many words you can write in a set time) is something that I was introduced to in Camp and it is super helpful to me when writing out scenes that stay stuck in my head.

One tip that I have is if you are a plotter/plantster, I'd heartily recommend that you cement the world and the characters before Camp starts. I didn't do that, and the draft collapsed (It was Seeds of an Orchard Invisible!!!). And, I personally think that it's much more fun if you're in a cabin with writers that you know instead of random strangers.

  3. Jameson: Thank you! I'm so glad you did. I agree with you - now that I'm older, I am much more grateful for my parents and their advice and such. I have a greater respect for them. (And I thought it fitting since I'm the oldest of the writers for SKG that I share that somehow.) :] Thanks so much!!! What you said about camp was so very encouraging. Makes me think I can do it for sure. Are you taking part this April??

Catherine: Thanks for the input!! That is so very helpful. I really have no idea about what I'm getting into, but it seems like Camp won't be as restricting as NaNo is (<-- although I think that's great in itself). I think that's what I need right now! How neat you are joining also! Do you already have a cabin?? If so, need a new member???

  4. You've totally got this! ;)

I am planning to do Camp! I just need to finish getting some notes in order first...

  5. Lots of happy campers, haha! I know you can totally rock Camp WriMo, Sarah. And look how many fellow campers you already know this year! It's infinitely more fun to write with friends, I think. :)
I am PROBABLY going to join as well. Still not 100% commited since it rather crept up on me & given my long-standing writer's block. BUT I strongly still want to try, so I am planning on going for it. I'd love to connect with you on the Camp site and maybe be cabin mates if you decide to do that! Mind sharing your username?

  6. Jameson: You are so sweet! Thank you so much, btw, for allowing me to join your cabin! Means a lot to me that there will be familiar faces for my first Camp. :]

Nightingale: Awww, dear Risa! I COMPLETELY agree. It's a gazillion times easier to join "programs" like NaNo and Camp when you know there will be familiar fellow peeps there as well. I so hope you join!! That would be AMAZING!!!! I've messaged you on Instagram about cabin mates. My username is SarahPenmaiden. :] <3

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
