What's in a Name?

Just a couple handles for you today, dearies.  :]

Hope you have a lovely week!

Nabu
Gender:  Masculine
Usage:  Near Eastern Mythology
Pronunciation:  NAH-boo

Meaning & History
Possibly from a Semitic root meaning "to announce."  This was the name of an Assyrian and Babylonian god of wisdom, letters, and writing.

Note:  If you think of Star Wars when you hear this name, you are a true geek.

Trista
Gender:  Feminine
Usage:  English
Pronunciation:  TRIS-

Meaning & History
Feminine form of Tristan, which is an Old French form of the Pictish name Drustan, a form of Drust, meaning "riot" or "tumult."  Also possibly associated with the Latin word tristis, meaning "sad."

Sarah

  1. I don't recall coming across any Nabus, Tristas (only Tristans), or even Drustans before. But I hope I will someday!

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
