A Book of Poems | Progress Through Photos

And now the day has come to share a bunch of pictures.
Of my poem book.  :]
For those who have no idee of what I am speaking of, I recently purchased a blank, leather journal, solely for the purpose of handwriting my poetry and doodling little doodles that match each piece.  My thinking is that this little book will one day be worth millions! in like, the next 200 years. . .  Haha!
Basically, it is a keepsake of mine for later generations.  :]
The quality of these pics are probably horrible as they were taken using my iPhone (almost ready to buy a real camera!!), which does well, but still. . . Most of them you can find on my Instagram (@sarahpenmaiden).

A teensy bit of designing was called for, of course.

Sketching in pencil first, then outlining in ink.

I enjoy pretty much anything to do with nautical themes.  And I've always loved ships.  And mermaids.  :]

The completed title page:

I left a blank page after the title page, because I want to do some kind of intro thing. . .

But on to the first poem!

This one covers three pages, and is a parody of Louis L'Amour's poem "I Haven't Read Gone With the Wind."

I'm not particularly happy with how the leafy doodles turned out on this next page.  But there's nothing to do now.

This one is a top favorite of all that I've written.  My sister Julia actually put a melody to it, and that just makes me love it even more!

I still have ten or more poems to add, with plenty of blank pages!

So, there you have it--the beginning of my Book of Poems.  I'll most likely post a few more pics as it progresses.  But you can find the entirety of my poems at the Princess Poetry page.

For now, I bid you farewell.  :]

  1. Can I just say I completely LOVE the title page? It looks professional! And just the fact that it's all hand drawn/written, in such a beautiful leather journal...ah. Gorgeous.

I have a collection of 50 or so poems, but they're just in a Word document, which is much less personal. Now you've given me the idea to write them out somewhere special! I love new notebooks, so hey, there's a good excuse to buy another one! ;D

But yes. This is beautiful--and so are the poems themselves!

  2. This is gorgeous! I love this... I could never do anything like this. I don't have the patience. ;)

  3. Oh my goodness! That's so pretty!

  4. Sarah, this is so beautiful! The heartfelt words, beautiful penmanship, and decorative doodles are all so cohesive and wonderful to look at. Even the little page numbers are adorable! Let me know if you are ever published so I can own one of your books ;)

  5. AAAAHHHH, SARAH. This is sooo beautiful!!! What a special treasure your children and grandchildren and so on will have. Too, too sweet!

That journal is so gorgeoumous. o.o And your DRAWINGS. SO MUCH TALENT. I am always in awe of artists because even my stickmen look deformed. Drawing is not a skill I posses. XD BUT YOU. YOU ARE SO SKILLED. I literally cannot stop staring at that title page. It's soooo beautiful! All your drawings are! It looks like artprints instead of something drawn with a pen. I don't know how you do it!

And your poems! *huggles them* My goodness, so much talent. I about died at the Twilight one! It's sooo accurate. XDDD I think my favorite part was "But I shy from fiction-Cullen." *falls over in a fit of laughter* TOO. FUNNY.

GAH. Just so much talent. I love it! Do keep us posted. I need to drool over more Sarah-goodness.

  6. 0.0 That is absolutely beautiful. I love the lettering and the little designs you have by each poem. Amazing! :D

  7. this is amazing! you have a talent for writing and sketching beautifully <3 Amazing, and I also love the quotes and verses and poems you put in there too :)

  8. Oh my, y'all are too sweet! ^__^

Tracey: Really? *blushes* I am quite pleased with how the title page turned out. :] I, too, love notebooks! (and it's nigh time to buy another for my stories...) That's wonderful! If you ever do something like this, let me know!! And thank you, dearie!

Proverbs31Teen: Aww, thank you! It does take quite a bit of patience... And acceptance after you've messed something up... ;D

    Chloe: Thanks, girlie!! :D

Lauren: Thank you! You are too kind! If that ever happens, this blog will probably be the first to hear. So glad you ladies take note of the tiny details. :]

Christine: Oh, dear Lauri! This comment, it make me happy! It made me blush aloud! #^-^# xD You are too sweet! Ahahaha! Deformed stickmen? That I would like to see. ;D Aww, m'dear, you gush! And my Twilight poem--so glad you like that one. It's a favorite; I had such fun piecing that together. Teehee! you are too much! <3

Katie Grace: Thank you, dearie! :] <3

    Autumn: And thank you, girl!

Y'all are such darlings! Thanks a mil for all of the comments! They definitely made my day. :]

  9. @Sarah: REALLY. It looks amazing! Like stamps or prints, as Christine said, except YOU made them. *squeal*
Yes, if I get around to doing this someday, I'll letcha know! ^.^ Post more pics when you fill some more pages! I think we'd all enjoy seeing this book of poems progress.

  10. You are a gifted artist, Sarah! Those pages are so beautiful.

  11. Woah, woah, woah! That was amazing! I'm duly impressed by your artwork. Keep it up! The future generations will be blown away. :)
Visiting from the GTW link-up and I just followed your blog. :)

  12. Tracey: I will! Thanks, girlie :]

Hannah Mary: Many thanks, sweet Hannah!

Aidyl Ewoh: *blushes* Thank you! It makes one doubly happy to see how many praise one's work. ^__^ And thanks for the follow!!
