A teensy bit of designing was called for, of course.
Sketching in pencil first, then outlining in ink.
I enjoy pretty much anything to do with nautical themes. And I've always loved ships. And mermaids. :]
The completed title page:
I left a blank page after the title page, because I want to do some kind of intro thing. . .
But on to the first poem!
This one covers three pages, and is a parody of Louis L'Amour's poem "I Haven't Read Gone With the Wind."
I'm not particularly happy with how the leafy doodles turned out on this next page. But there's nothing to do now.
This one is a top favorite of all that I've written. My sister Julia actually put a melody to it, and that just makes me love it even more!
I still have ten or more poems to add, with plenty of blank pages!

So, there you have it--the beginning of my Book of Poems. I'll most likely post a few more pics as it progresses. But you can find the entirety of my poems at the Princess Poetry page.
For now, I bid you farewell. :]
Can I just say I completely LOVE the title page? It looks professional! And just the fact that it's all hand drawn/written, in such a beautiful leather journal...ah. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI have a collection of 50 or so poems, but they're just in a Word document, which is much less personal. Now you've given me the idea to write them out somewhere special! I love new notebooks, so hey, there's a good excuse to buy another one! ;D
But yes. This is beautiful--and so are the poems themselves!
This is gorgeous! I love this... I could never do anything like this. I don't have the patience. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! That's so pretty!
ReplyDeleteSarah, this is so beautiful! The heartfelt words, beautiful penmanship, and decorative doodles are all so cohesive and wonderful to look at. Even the little page numbers are adorable! Let me know if you are ever published so I can own one of your books ;)
ReplyDeleteAAAAHHHH, SARAH. This is sooo beautiful!!! What a special treasure your children and grandchildren and so on will have. Too, too sweet!
ReplyDeleteThat journal is so gorgeoumous. o.o And your DRAWINGS. SO MUCH TALENT. I am always in awe of artists because even my stickmen look deformed. Drawing is not a skill I posses. XD BUT YOU. YOU ARE SO SKILLED. I literally cannot stop staring at that title page. It's soooo beautiful! All your drawings are! It looks like artprints instead of something drawn with a pen. I don't know how you do it!
And your poems! *huggles them* My goodness, so much talent. I about died at the Twilight one! It's sooo accurate. XDDD I think my favorite part was "But I shy from fiction-Cullen." *falls over in a fit of laughter* TOO. FUNNY.
GAH. Just so much talent. I love it! Do keep us posted. I need to drool over more Sarah-goodness.
