What's in a Name?

Happy Monday, friends!
And if you're participating in Camp NaNoWriMo, we're in our second day!!

Did you all have a lovely Easter weekend?  I know I did---ate too much, as usual.  ;D

Well, on to the names!  Cuz that's why you're here, right??
Enjoy!
(Gareth & Adelaja are my faves here.)  :]

Gareth
M | Welsh, English (British), Arthurian Romance
GAR-eth (or GAIR-eth -- modern pronunciation)

Meaning unknown.  It first appears in this form in a 15th-century compilation of Arthurian legends by Thomas Malory, Le Morte d'Arthur, in which this was the given name of Sir Gawain's brother.  Mr. Malory based the name on Gahariet, which may possibly have a Welsh origin and related to gwaredd, meaning "gentleness."

Adelaja
F | English
a-de-LAHJ-ah (possibly)

Possibly a form of Adelajda, which is the Polish form of Adelaide, from elements meaning "noble" and "kind, sort, type."

Dieter
M | German
DEE-tu

Meaning "warrior of the people"; from combined Germanic elements meaning "people" and "army."

Olya
F | English

Diminutive of Olga, which is the Russian form of Helga, ultimately meaning "holy, blessed."

  3. What a great list! I might even have to use some of them. *pulls up potential name list* I think I liked Adelaja and Olya the best (I have a bad habit of picking names that end with A or the 'a' sound. I can't help myself!).

I love that you give the meanings and history of the name. That's super cool and something I absolutely love learning, as I try to pick names that have meanings behind them. It adds a certain level of intrigue to stories, I think.

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
