Go the Second Mile

Here is a new poem I wrote, inspired by Matthew 5:38-42.

Pinterest
What should I do
When to ground I am beat?
What can I do
In this world so bittersweet?
How can I shine
For God all the while?

In every trial and trouble,
Go the second mile.

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'  But I tell you, don't resist an evildoer.  On the contrary, if anyone slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.  As for the one who wants to sue you and take away your shirt, let him have your coat as well.  And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two.  Give to the one who asks you, and don't turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."
Matthew 5:38-42

We are to shine like Christ every day.  Easier said than done, right?  Still, it is possible.  In every thought, word, and action we can show His love to an unloving world.  And if that world beats us down, we can only get back up, proclaiming His Word all the more.  If our actions are pure and genuine, others will see Him instead of us.

I love Katherine Hepburn's quote,
"Life is hard.  After all, it kills you."

A harsh truth.  But a truth all the same.  Whether you wish it or not, this life will end in death.  But if you have chosen Christ and believe with all your heart and soul that He is God and His Word is true, than Death is merely a door.

A door to Life.

Go the second mile.  =]

  1. Wonderful post, Sarah. :) I could get this into my head, it would help. I so often fall short to do more for others ore feel like giving up on everything...
    Thanks. :)

  2. Thank you, Tane! You're not alone, I believe we all fall short, but by God's grace, it is possible. =]

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
