What's in a Name?

Hullo, again!

Just wanted to let you know, while my blogging schedule is back to normal, per ce, my sisters and I are working inventory all week. . . So, you'll please forgive me if I miss a normal posting.

By the way, how's your first full week of 2015 going?  Excited?  Anxious?  Fearful?  Doubting?  Fear not.  Leave your worries and care in the capable hands of the One who knows every step.

For now, I leave you with a couple new names to mull over.  In the meantime, do you have any name requests?  Do you need some help figuring out the perfect lid for a new character?  Or do you need to find the meaning of your character's name?  Whatever it may be, I'd love to help in any way I can! Shoot me a comment!!

Here's a half-set of names with an Italian flavor:

Mattea
Gender:  Feminine

Pronunciation:  maht-TE-ah

Meaning & History

  1. AMADEO AMADEO. Ooh, I love this name! I think it would be so much more plausible in a story than Amadeus. Now I just have to find a suitable character who can steal it! ^-^

I like the name Mattea as well. It's similar to my littlest brother's middle name, Mateo.

Right now I'm in need of names to represent a mixed demographic of Americans. I'm going to have a really big group of people from all around the country thrown together in a story I've been pondering, mostly in the 10-25 age range. It's proving slightly harder than I though to find COLORFUL names for the cast that aren't too UNUSUAL, at least not unusual enough that they draw attention to themselves. Pretty abstract name requirements, I know, but if you want to take up the challenge I'd be happy for the help. ^-^

    Great name post, as always!

  2. Ooh, very nice. :) I know someone named Matia (obviously spelled differently than the version here). I wonder if it's still Italian?

  3. NIGHTINGALE: Oh, isn't it? I love 'em both :] And Mateo, too!

Oo, sounds like a marvelous challenge! I accept! I'll see what I can come up with... Thanks, girlie!

MICHELLE: Thank you, dearie! I love that name--both spellings. And I just did a quick bit o' research: turns out Matia is the Basque form of Matthew. Neat-o, right? :]

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
