A Word, Guv'na?

Greetings, dear friends!  Welcome back!

I have something new for you!  I've decided to do a kind of "word of the day" post, at least twice every week.  What do you think?  I will feature a random word on the selected days with their definition and maybe a paragraph or two pertaining to that word.

The idea is to give you, young writers, a wider vocabulary for your writings, and help me, as well, to extend my knowledge.  Words are powerful.  I believe it is important to know their meanings.

So, without further ado... Our first word!

imperishable
Webster's 1828 Dictionary
adj.  not subject to decay; not liable to perish; indestructable; enduring permanently
The New Lexicon Webster's Dictionary of the English Language (1990)
adj.  of that which will not perish, decay or be destroyed

"Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  According to His great mercy, He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, uncorrupted, and unfading, kept in heaven for you."
1 Peter 1:3-4, HCSB

"Your beauty should not consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyle and the wearing of gold ornaments or fine clothes.  Instead, it should consist of what is inside the heart with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very valuable in God's eyes."
1 Peter 3:3-4, HCSB

To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, and a book of rules,
And each must make, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block or a stepping stone.
